I prayed the Lord would reveal something to me this weekend. I kept seeing swallow-tail butterflies. I began researching these beautiful creatures and this is what I learned. They are strong flyers. Their first meal is the egg shell. As their body transforms, it neither eats or drinks. They have a flexible tongue and are camouflaged throughout the various stages of their lives so they can ward off predators.
What I believe the Lord was teaching me is – just like the butterfly’s first meal is the shell, we must die to self so we may truly live. We also need to imitate their transformation by fasting; so ultimately we can tune into Him and become more like Him. Christians must be flexible as the butterflies tongue is flexible…we should bend our own selfish will to become His perfect will. And lastly, as the caterpillar and pupa are camouflaged to war off predators, the Lord expects us to put on His full armor to fight off evil daily so we can fly and achieve our true potential. 2 Cor. 3:18
