I am a crossing guard at one of the elementary schools here in Tupelo. There is not a lot to keep me occupied at my post, so I have challenged myself with trying to be a blessing to all the cars that drive by me by at least waving and/or smiling at them. While doing this the other morning, my heart was saddened because some of the drivers were distracted by something else, some refused to look in my direction, and others were blinded by the morning sun.
The Lord used this as a reminder to me that I too could fall victim of this very thing. I could be distracted and not see a blessing that He’s put right in front of me…I could just be stubborn and selfish to look for them…or even worse, I could be so blinded by the sun (or my sin) that I miss out entirely on what He has planned for me. I don’t know about you, but my prayer is I become intentional about seeing His works around me and I don’t miss any of the blessings He has for me because of being self absorbed or entangled by sin.
As many of you know, I am a new Crossing Guard at one of the elementary schools here in Tupelo. Even though it’s only been a week, I have already learned that when I see the gentleman putting up the cones to block to school drive, then my morning task is complete. Today was my first day to do this by myself; so when I saw him, I was feeling extra good knowing all of my kiddos made it safely to their destination. As I was leaving my post, the morning sun blinded me and I had a spiritual awakening. All I could think of was how glorious the Son’s light will be once we get heaven.
Several of the people I have been walking through this journey with have expressed their lack of confidence in praying out loud. After meditating on that, the Lord reminded me that practice makes perfect! In preparation, I looked up several scriptures and already written out prayers and placed them on index cards for the girls to read aloud. One Tuesday evening instead of studying about how to be prayer warriors, we became them! We gathered and went to the hospital, a school, city hall, the national guard and a church to conquer their fears! I watched my sisters go from being timid to reading the prayers and scriptures with boldness and in His authority! I know Tupelo will never be the same and my hope is they won’t either!
My cup runneth over. There is nothing I delight more than to see others growing in Christ and then passing on what the Lord has done for them. Well, during our last small group meeting, I listened to every member share how they had helped a friend and offered guidance to someone who noticed a life-change in them! I pointed out that they have evolved from being a disciple to becoming disciple maker! God is so good and faithful! What a blessing it is when He allows us to see the fruit of our labor!
The Lord gave me an opportunity to minister to a few people even before we even hit the street this morning! I ended up getting to go on a team with Royal who delighted in the fact that he went out with Sherri last month and then her two daughters this month! They were able to watch me share the Gospel with a sweet lady on her work break and then we all were able to witness Royal share the love of Christ by being a listening ear and praying for a struggling young man. Once we returned to the church, we listened as the other teams shared how our Holy Father moved and shook up Horn Lake through their teams too!
Today I had the privilege of meeting with these ladies for Java and Jesus! We laughed, cried, prayed, worshiped and praised our Heavenly Father.
